After a considerable amount of acne on my nose, I began scratching it and squeezing it to remove spots, which has left my nose very red and inflamed. I thought that it would go away in a few months, but the redness is still there after about a year, and it is confined solely to my nose. I do not believe that there is any significant swelling or thickening of the skin on the nose, and if there is it is very small. I have no idea what I am suffering from, and it is very embarrassing; what is my condition, and how do you alleviate or stop it?

my right foot has been swollen for the last five years approx. it was x rayed and there was nothing broken. ive never had swelling of any other body parts and my left foot is normal. i stopped wearing high heeled shoes as a result and i have to buy bigger more comfortable shoes as the right foot needs more room to be comfortable.when im wearing the flat shoes the swelling doesnt appear so bad but if i was to wear high heels for a day, the swelling increases. the swelling is at the top of my foot and also there is a hard swelling at the right front of my ankle.

What so I do?

This past January I had a septal button put into my nose, because I had a very large hole in my nasal septum from a previous surgery I had when I was little. Just recently, the right side of my nose has been sore and swollen and making the right side of my mouth to hurt. It hurts to blow my nose, eat or even smile. What should I do and why is my nose hurting this much since my surgery?

How do I get rid of my red bump under my nose stud? I got my nose pierced about 7 weeks ago and since wearing make up again on my nose I found I had a puss filled spot I stupidly squeezed it and did sea salt compressions plus savlon liquid and now it's turned into a red lump that looks horrible!!

Hello, I'm not sure if I have nasal polyps, but when I look up my nose I have what look like swellings up each nostril, one worse than the other at the moment but can change, they look fleshy, red and I can't feel them but I can never breathe properly out my nose and when I do have a look the passage down my nose is mostly all closed up, it was only when someone else looked I realised it wasn't right! Recently also I've noticed blood coming from them, not enough to worry about but I wondered if anyone else had the same problem? I have been to the doctors who just looked in my ears and gave me drops? Also recently bought more sprays for my nose but I don't notice any difference really! I'd have an op on this like I've seen comments have done! But the thought of being awake and having it I just don't think I could go through it! Any advice or anyone have the same problem!!!!

You probably have swollen turbinates. I have the same problem. They are fleshy coloured balls that when inflamed you can see yourself by shining a torch etc up your nostril. I've had two operations on mine and I'm still struggling to breathe propperly even now, 2 years later. It all makes you very depressed as not a lot of people appreciate you breathe 24/7, any continual problems really impact quality of life. You need to ask your gp to refer to you to an ENT consultant. I was misdiagnosed by my gp for 8 months and my ENT, although trying hasn't managed to fix my problem.

I had a adult circumcision 1 year ago, however, there is still considerable swelling. Is there any corrective surgery to deal with this? It does not seem as if the swelling will go down. THanks

My nose hurts almost all the time - more so when the weather is cold - sometimes the pain spreads to my top teeth and my cheeks - In the last 12 months I have noticed several new small hard lumps under the skin on my nose from the bridge to the tip and feel that my nose is changing, I.e. Skin thickening and increasing in size sometimes it feels swollen - I also have some puffiness on my cheeks - anybody have similar symptoms?

Karen - please see further info posted on the website under my initial email.

My boyfriend has ocular rosacea, rosacea on his face and palpules on his nose including the visible tiny red blood vessles. About 2 weeks ago, he started taking 1000 mg each of L-Lysine (amino acids)and vitamin C each morning and night. I was cautiously optomistic, as I had read so much about how these vitamins help. I am amazed at his improvement. Redness almost gone, eyes clearing up. He's now added 1000 mg. of flaxseed oil (omega 3 fatty acids) to his daily regimin. I recommend it to anyone with rosacea! The problem is within. I'm not kidding. Try it!!

Hi, I've had a forceful blow to the nose; the doctor has told me it isn't broken, but a week on I feel as though my nose doesn't feel the same. There isn't any swelling, but when I inhale through my nose, my nostrils close together, which never happened before. Also, when I exhale through my nose I feel as though my soft pallet is lifting and blocking the air flow. I also have noticed since the blow if I drink too fast I can feel the water flowing up my nose. My question is; is it possible that receiving a blow to the nose can move/damage or weaken the soft palate? I am also worried that the cartilage in my nose will collapse; how likely is this? Many Thanks

I have had these horrible things since I was 22, I'm now 51. Mine appear around my ears and the top of my nose. I have had many surgicially removed, but they usually come back if there is any remnant of the cyst left in the tissue. I have scar tissue all around my ears and nose. It has affected me for so long, but I still get embarrassed. The stuff that comes out of them is horrible and smelly. I can't believe that the gp's think this is cosmetic, that just isn't the case. When they get infected the swelling is awful. For example when the ones at the top of my nose get infected my whole face swells and my eyes shut. I look like I've been in a boxing ring!

That's how I got my hole too!! I annoy myself thinking about it now cause if I'd just left it alone I wouldn't be going through this but I never would of thought that picking a scab so much would cause a hole!! Yeh I'm losing alot of confidence in my surgeon mainly cause of him scaring me about the surgery and when I went for my pre op the nurse scared me too and didn't give me any reassurance what so ever! Erm I think he said he's fixed 58 out of 60 perforations. He said he uses a graft and uses the lining from my nose toi cover each side is that what you think yours was? so how is you're nose looking now and did the swelling last long?

Hello, My friend has been suffering from mucormycosis of the paranasal air sinuses and has a huge swelling of his nose for more than a year now. He has undergone surgery and a course of amphotericin (anti fungal) but his problem seems to recur. At present his nose is swollen , red and he is unable to breathe through the nose. He is in India and has spent a fortune for his treatment there. The doctors treating him do not guarantee that the problem will not recur after another course of anti fungal medicine or surgery. Please help. If needed, he is ready to travel to England for treatment.

Hello. Just over a year ago I was diagnose with an ovarian cyst which caused much pain and swelling of my abdomen. I had the cyst removed aswel as a fallopien tube, due to swelling. Since my surgery my consultant told me that the swelling to my abdomen would lessen, but this dosent have seemed to happen. I have tryed to exercise to lessen the swelling. Have you got any tips or ideas which may help, as the swelling reduces my confidence?

Is there any infection or swelling that's affecting your ability to breathe comfortably? There's also a possibility that you just got the wrong size or shape bar. I got my nose pierced when I was 16 (I'm now 20) and I've found that I'm only comfortable with a specific type of bar. I have quite a large one that hooks round rather than the bars that have a non-removable ball at the end. The only time I've ever had trouble was when using a bar with a ball on the end - pain when removing/putting it in because it stretched the skin and feeling like it was obstructing that side of my nose. I'd say try a slightly different size bar and try one with a hook end like the centre or right-hand bars here: http://www.metalmorphosis.co.uk/new/pages/images/products/nosestuds/platinum/nose_pl_1.jpg It depends very much on what you find comfortable. If there is an infection, just cleanse the piercing with either a piercing solution from your chemist or saline. Also, taking out your nose stud is usually a good idea when you want to blow your nose but it's not usually a necessity.

Hi, i'm a 17 year old female and my problem is my nose, I have a really big nose and its been making me depressed since i was 14, i cry at night and it really gets me down. A few years ago I notices two small hard lumps either side of my sons nose. I thought it was cartilage so I left it. My sons says that his nose is painful and he often has a blocked nose. I tried looking up his nose and it does seem like there are lumps inside- although it is difficult to see. I was wondering if he could have nose polyps?

Same problem. Get impetigo every three to five months. It appears under my nose or on the nose. Often around my eyes and on the neck. GP has been useless and i have had to drive the investigation. Swabs only showed scant staph in the nose and nowhere else. We have tried the decolonisation of the nose but it didn't help. I have no idea what else to try. I am 37 by the way and this has been happening since I was 18.

Have you been put on a course of oral antibiotics - flucloxicillin? I'm 36 and battled it for many years with incorrect diagnoses from multiple doctors, did my own investigation, requested a 2 week course of flucloxicillin (at the time I had a large lesion that had been there for 6 week despite multiple antibiotic creams and doxycycline oral) and within 24 hours it began to improve, healed in 5 days.

In reply to Lisa's comment. Yes I have had fluclox tablets but just for one week. To be honest it still ran it's cycle even without them. Thus far the lesions are scabbing by around day four or five and drop off within two weeks. This leaves pink marks that take time to fade. I may ask for a longer course the next time it happens but how long have you been clear since taking them?

Please help... I get a red nose when i enter a hot room, when i drink hot drinks when i eat hot food, it really is most of the time.. I can feel it swelling. Its so embbarassing now that i have stopped going out.. How can i prevent this from happening.

Well, I am sad to hear about your anxiety, and having recovered from that myself, I'd like to help... I have a small perforation too which I ignore but occasionally, when it gets infected and bleeds (which is what started it), I wash it in water until the bleed stops, then treat it with some First Aid Wash. The good news? I've had it for about 7 yrs, and in that time I had 1 cold (& much less severe).. I used to get 2 to 3 a year. I just had 'flu and STILL not head cold. The wash I use? I can't recommend it to you, but it is Savlon Cetrimide (from Boots)... do not use without doctors advice and at least a tiny test patch 1st .. and don't over-use it (blow out excess, just leaving a very thin layer). And pls do see a doc if nec (& I'm sure they can point you to some safer wash). So does Septal perforation = cure for common cold? I hope a doc looks into this..

May I add to my reply... (And hopefully others too will find this helpful), at first I too removed the crusted blood clots manually that resulted from the original infection, without realising it was damaging the septum and causing more bleeding later (curiously, it does not cause further bleeding straight away). I was mortified when I discovered the hole so to stop further damage I used good old vaseline (after cleaning the wound with water). That dramatically softens any further crusting, thus stopping damage when you clean. Can I also add that knowing how depression is such a difficult thing to go see a doc about, you can legally and effectively self medicate with St John's Wort on eBay (quick before the EU bans it) .. and recommend also Vit D3 (who's absence is a big contributor). These cheap hassle free remedies changed my life. Pity they don't fix the economy which is undoubtedly a common underlying cause...

Hi, I have had rosacea for two years. I am a 32 year old female. I have been prescribed erthromyocin and I only feel that this is helping a bit. My the spots are spreading and the redness is still there. My nose is now starting to swell. I saw a laser specialist and was told to use a face wash with Salycic acid in it. This made it worse so I stopped using it. The problem is the laser specialist said that unless I unblock the pores he won't look at laser and I now have to wait another 4 months for another appointment. In the mean time my nose is still swelling and I am unsure of what to do?as it's really affecting me and I don't seem to be getting any answers and the time scale is too long as my condition is worsening

Try altering your diet by cutting out all sugar, wheat, corn and potatoes. Rosacea is a known fungus and it feeds off of the sugar and yeast you eat. So, if your a carb lover, you are more likely to develop fungal issues. If you want more information, please check out www.knowthecause.com and look for The Phase One Diet. It will help you follow the anti-fungal diet. My you find relief soon, Jen

Keep pestering your doctor. I was fobbed off by my doctor years ago who said it was rhinitus and there was nothing could be done. When I moved house and changed doctor he said they have to try 3 things before they can refer you to ENT. I tried sprays and tablets but they did nothing. At the end of my tether I demanded to be referred and finally was. Again I had to try spays and tablets, none of which worked and I have now been told I will have a CT scan after which they can arrange surgery. It seems a long process, almost as if they want you to give up and go away, but DONT. If your doctor wont refer you, see a different one. Good luck.
