Ever been so desperate for the toilet you thought you might burst? Well that’s a bit like what having a case of atonic bladder feels like – all the time. Read more →

Hi, I've just had pelvic floor surgery as my bladder was invading into my vagina. The surgery seemed to go well and apart from feeling a bit sore, I still feel swollen inside. The surgery was done 5 days ago. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? It still feels like my bladder is invading into the vaginal wall but when I've looked 'down below' there is no sign of the tell-tale bulge I've had for so long so clearly, the repair looks like it's been done correctly but I'm no doctory. Can anyone help me with this please? Thank you

I have had problems with my bladder for years. I have to go to the toilet all the time, and can't go anywhere without knowing that there is a toilet nearby. I'm also up almost every hour during the night. In addition I have pain around the end of my urethra. The area around my urethra becomes swollen and hard and I'm in agony for quite a few hours each day. When I get up in the morning, there is no pain, but as soon as I've been moving around for about half an hour it starts hurting again. I have been seeing a specialist and have had bladder distentions and am having Cystistat instillations, but nothing really helps. I'm wondering if it's all being caused by something pressing on something. The pain is certainly relieved for a while when I have a bowel movement but soon comes back. I'm female, 63 years old by the way. I feel that it's difficult to live in this condition and that nobody has really got to the source of what's causing it.

I (too) have an atonic bladder and there have been a few times when I've been out and couldn't find a washroom nearby. Your bladder is made up of the same type of muscle as your heart - striated. Basically, it's criss-crossed and knitted together tightly so it can't burst. You're more likely to have the detrusor muscle give way than your bladder bursting. Worry not!

I would speak to your Dr and ask for physiotherapy training. Lots of women with pelvic organ prolapse aren't able to identify their pelvic floor muscles properly. A pessary may help support the prolapse. NHS offer a limited range of pessaries (mainly the ring is prescribed but there are others available from medical companies. I would recommend the T pessary as this was designed for cystocele and rectocele prolapses. As they come in all sizes you will need to be measured by your Dr first.

do you keep weeing? You may need uro dynamics to diagnose the bladder prolapse properly. A TVT can rectify this problem.

I've had a sore throat for about a week now, I took a look today and can see that my tonsils are very swollen (patchy red and white) with a few white spots on them. My glands are very swollen as well. My tonsils are gradually getting more swollen. However, I have no other symptoms of tonsillitis; Having had it a couple times in my childhood I know its not that.

It sounds like your bladder might not be emptying as much as it should when you go, hence going little but often. Unless you have already done this, you could try asking your gp if you can have an ultrasound. I had one done and it might help - they asked me to drink lots to fill up my bladder as much as possible (this was while i was suffering cystitis), then they scanned the bladder to see what it looked like. They then told me to go and empty my bladder as much as possible and scanned it again. At the very least, they were able to tell me that my bladder wasnt emptying completely, which led to infections.

I suffer from interstatial cystitis and my stomach is ALWAYS swollen. has been for the last 9years. ive had 3 hydrodistentions, none which have really helped. however the last few days my stomach has been extremely swollen and my bladder is killing me :( im sore and dry down below. my labia have always been bigger butafter having a baby and getting older they seem to of srretched and dropped causing alot of discomfort including the dryness. even wearing underwear is sore. it seems almost every other time I have sex im a little sore down below and my stomach swells. any help/advice would be appreciated. any help/advice would be great.

Hi Nicole, my name is Julie and im 41. i also have an atonic bladder with a spc and an ileostomy for atonic colon. Ive had no end of problems myself from constant UTIs/site infections to a huge parastomal hernia. I am on my 3rd medical opinion re my bladder and im waiting for a date so i can have combined bladder and bowel surgery to repair the hernia, resite my ileostomy and create a mitrofanoff continent bladder diversion. It definitely is such a life changing, difficult condition to try to live with. Do you have any idea how your atonic bladder started? Lots of love, here if you need anything x

I have a Neuropathic Bladder and have been getting bladder infections at least once every couple of months since the age of 1. I have found that cranberry juice really does help. If you don't like the taste, you can always buy cranberry extract tablets. They work just as well. The most common form of antibiotics is Amoxicillin, but if it hasn't been working, try Nitrofurantoin or Trimethoprim. Also, if you get them more frequently after sex, go to the toilet before and after sex, as the vibration promotes the bacteria to grow. If you have a bladder problem that promotes bladder infections, you can try a botox injection into the bladder, but that may only work for a couple of years. I hope I've helped. x

Please ask your Doctor to refer you to a Urologist - a specialist who deals with bladder and kidney problems as these symptoms may be a chronic urinary infection which can track up into the ureters (the tubes which come out of the kidneys and into the bladder) The lining of your bladder may be inflammed.

My daughter is four years old and has severely swollen tonsils, they touch when she sticks her tongue out, she has no other symptoms and I noticed this a month ago, is this normal?? I took her to a doctor, and they gave me a nurse instead who said they were just swollen. She also snores loudly. I've looked it up and found nothing, why are they swollen??

Hi im am 23 years of age and for 3 years now have had a bladder problem. I go to wee up to 6 times an hour. I have been for scans and other checks. The doctor could not figure out what was causing problems and left it as i got into a habbit of emptying my bladder and it shrunk, they said i had to train my bladder back so i could hold more. I have been doing this for about 8 months now and there is still no change, and i do not think this is the reason for me weeing so much. I am loosing sleep as i get up around 15 times a night to empty my bladder and this is effecting my work and social life. Please help!

I have an Overactive and Underactive Bladder, i have been self catheterising but this causes extreme spasms in my bladder that are very uncomfortable. I have tried all anticholergenic medicines with no success. I had Botox into my bladder in February 2012 but this has made the problem worse. I now have no control of my bladder, i will wet myself with no warning. I am due to have another botox treatment in August but as i am only 15 i am finding the lack of any other options very upsetting. My wetting is having a massive impact on my life and i am now unable to participate in sporting activites at school as i wet myself. Does anyone have any advice???

Hey, I'm 31 and I wet myself at least once a day and it's ruling my life too. When I do go to the toilet ive got to lean forward to make sure I feel like my bladder is empty and if I don't go when I feel it straight away I will wet myself! I'm so unhappy I really need help.

Hi there, I understand your problem and feel very deeply for you because you are so young. please go back to your doctor and get further help. Just keep trying other treatment untill you find the one that works for you. There is a small gadget which is two small egg shaped balls which you insert. this helps you to stregthen your inner muscles, this will then help you to have more control. Ask your doctor about these. They were featured on the Em.Bodies program. good luck with that.

hey if your trying to find a ibs toliet card them try this website. xXx http://www.bladderandbowelfoundation.org/bladder/bladder-problems/overactive-bladder/bbf-just-cant-wait-toilet-card.htm hope it helps xXx

I have IC and take amitryptiline. A low dose 10 or 25mg. maybe it may help you. Ask your GP to refer you to a pain management clinic at your local hospital. Goodluck chick.

I'm really paranoid about having to take pills I'm only 27 and the pills they want to give you have side effects, have you experienced any?

I go to the loo around every hour at work at if I drink in the evening it's every half hour, it is so uncomfortable to hold it even though there isn't much there, also my bladder feels swollen and hard on one side when I lay in bed at night, even if I've just been to the loo. I am worried that I damaged it when younger with drug abuse. I am 37.
