I had the same problem after my 3rd child (2nd birth, twins 1st). I was 42, I was tested for everything from lupus to rheumatiod arthritis. Western medicine has no idea what it is (ideopathic). I found relief from acupuncture, supplements of horse chestnut and manjistha (an auyervedic lymph cleanse supplement and getting tested for food sensitivities had the biggest impact. I found I was sensitive to gluten, dairy, eggs, bananas and beef. I have cut out the food and had a tremendous improvement. Not totally resolved but much better on a day to day basis.

I have 2 lumps on my groin area, they have been there a couple months and have been to my doctors and they say its an infection from cuts on my legs but i dont have cuts on my legs and lately they have swollen up and got really painfull to even walk ? should i be worried ??

my mum has lymphoedema in her right arm and also in the bottom half of both legs, the skin stretches so much that it becomes hard and shiny, and feels as thought it is going to burst. also the colour at the bottom of her legs has changed so much, it is like a brown freckly look, sometimes she finds it hard out walking as her legs and ankles become so tender and swollen. her eye sight has also deteriorated dramatically, and she is finding it hard to cope. she has been to her gp and optitions but we feel that no one is listening to her. it all started after she received chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer. what options are available to her now. thank you

If you are worried, why not contact our doctors for advice. Call us on 0121 2248395.

My husbands legs ( from knees to ankle) are swollen. He is in so much pain that sometimes it's unbearable pain. He's been seen by the doctors who keep giving him special socks to wear to reduce the swelling, which it does for a couple of hours but then the swelling returns when he walks. He can't walk for long, can't stand for long. He has been advised by the doctor that he needs to keep his legs elevated. This can be tough as he works in an office. He's struggling to sleep as he's in constant pain. The doctors have now told him to lose weight to see if that maybe the cause, but he's unable to exercise as the swelling returns. His legs have now been swollen for 3 weeks he's been to see the doctor again who have now said they will refer him to have X-rays. He is struggling a lot. We have a 2year old daughter and she's missing out on having fun with her daddy. His right calf has discoloured, it's like a dark purple colour again the doctors can't do anything for him. He's gaining weight as he can't walk for long, he can't sleep at night, to get through the night he eats to try to ignore the pain. It is now affecting our marriage. Can you please help us. PLease help my husband, he is only 33, when this problem started 4 years ago he was told the doctors can't do anything, he was advised to maybe have his legs amputated. That is not an option. Please can you help him and diagnose him. The doctors have said they will register him disabled So that we can get financials help as he's unable to work for long hours.

I've had a sore throat for about a week now, I took a look today and can see that my tonsils are very swollen (patchy red and white) with a few white spots on them. My glands are very swollen as well. My tonsils are gradually getting more swollen. However, I have no other symptoms of tonsillitis; Having had it a couple times in my childhood I know its not that.

    You might have glandular fever

I have had lymphoedema in my lower legs and in both feet for about 12 years now which started when I was 6 years old. My feet are sometimes very painful and if I ever go abroad to a hot country my feet and legs are extremely painful and swollen and also sweat really badly. I have tried everything I can find such as bandages, acupuncture, massages, seperation socks, circulation pads & magnets and much more to help keep the fluid down. However I can never find anything that keeps the fluid down for more than a few hours. I really have no idea what to do about it anymore ... I really need help.

Over recent months I've noticed I've developed visibly swollen Ankles and sometimes even the feet have felt swollen too it can be uncomfortable and painful and my doctor told me it could be due to hot weather and standing up a lot but didn't examine my feet but did say if it got any worse to go back. Personally I'm concerned it is more serious as this is not what I'd consider mild swelling, diabetes is in the family and I have PCOS. I also feel stiffness in my lower legs along with the swollen ankles and would appreciate some advice.

I've started getting extremely itchy legs over the past couple of days. I've had itchy legs before but never this bad. The main itch is over my calf, knees and thighs. My right leg has developed a pin prick purple rash which covers an area about the size of the palm of a hand. I have itched some areas where they have bruised easily, my legs have swollen a little bit and were made worse when I exercised yesterday evening. My legs are painful and irritating me!!!

I'm in my late 20's and for about 10 years or so I have had constant swollen ankles and possible swollen legs. It does not hurt at all, but just very rare times , say for instance, i wake up in the morning, my ankle has seized and if i apply pressure it hurts abit. It takes a hour to finally walk on it properly. I have explained all this to several gp's but like alot of people, they have told me to lose weight. I'm only 1/2 stone heavier than my ideal weight for my height, and have lost weight in the past, but this condition as not changed. I can't remember the last time I wore a skirt as I make sure that my legs and ankles are hidden. Is there anything you can advise me on. Kind Regards

Dan. i think this may help. im 13 and my knee cap keeps popping out. i have properly dislocated it twice in 1 year. a knee support helps alot during p.e/games. try to avoid sharp movements and quickly turning around to talk to mates. if the dislocates, go to A&E. when my knee dislocated i tore the tissue in my knee and chipped the bottom of my thigh bone. because i tore the tissue lots of blood made my knee swell up so i had to have it drained. 1/4 a litre came out of my knee that night, and i was made to wear a splint which just holds the knee in place and keeps the leg straight and i was on crutches for 4-6weeks. as i said before, a knee support help alot.

i also forgot to say that i am only in a size 10 to 12 my upper body doesnt swell so is quite slim but my legs are like tree trunks, painful and wen i use my arms or hands they swell and so do my fingers and toes but my legs and ankles are constantly swollen

Has anyone heard of Lipodema? I've had it since the age of around 19 and never knew what it was until I saw a vascular doctor this year. My legs look swollen and hurt to touch. It's between my knees and ankles (I have a line that you get from wearing tight socks). I think it is also slightly in my arms. I've been told there is no cure and hate my very large heavy legs.

Yes i too havbe Lipodema. I discovered that i had it april 2009 after years of just thinking that i just had really fat legs. well i too believe that there is no cure for it but i would really love to see about getting liposuction done on my legs.

Hi I was born with lipoedma and was diagnosed properly in 2003, MLD does help with the pain and wearing made to measure support stockings also help. Ask your doctor to refer you to the nearest lymphoedma clinic or contact the LSN who can let you know of the nearest clinic, DERBY and QMC and the District Nurses in Norfolk all do MLD and bandaging. Lisa

Poor you! I can really sympathise with you. I've always had swollen ankles AND swollen wrists. I, too, have been told (many times) it's something I have to live with. Apparently, even liposuction would not work. The one thing I'm thankful for is the fact that my arms and legs are virtually hairless - I've never had to shave anywhere (and, yes, I am female!) - which is the only reason I'm not too bitter about it. You may be luckier than me as I'm much older than you. There may be a miracle medical breakthrough in the future, who knows? In the meantime, I'm afraid that - at the moment at least - you'll just have to carry on avoiding shorts and short skirts (they're overrated anyway!)

I have veins in my legs but the other day I trpped in the street now my legs are all bruised they look awfull even the veins in my right leg are bruised what can I do with them, they are not sore just swollen.

I have had swollen calves for about 5 years now. I am overweight but the problem came on very quickly after a motorcycle accident that damaged my knees. I was diagnosed and cured of Lyme Disease a couple of years after that and since then, my lower legs have swollen to twice their previous diameter. My doctor advised against liposuction, suggesting instead I go on a Xenical diet but I know it's not my weight causing this. I use elastic knee supports to reduce the swelling for a day or so but it comes back. I really want something done so that I can wear shorts, skirts, boots and swmming costumes again!
