    Vaginal Tearing

A vaginal tear most commonly occurs during the birth of a baby, when the baby’s head stretches the opening of the vagina. Read more →

I'm really quite concerned about my vagina lately. I'm in a monogamous relationship and my partner and I have regular sex. Sometimes during sex it's quite sore on my uterus or like he has hit my cervix. Surely that's not right...? And sometimes I find a very small tear at the bottom of my vagina that heals within a day or two. This occurs even if there is plenty natural or synthetic lubrication. Most recently I have received a very large tear that is almost right to my anus. We last had sex over a week ago but it is only within the last few days that it has really been giving me problems and I have noticed it. What should I do about it? Will it heal naturally? And how long will that take? And if and when it does heal, will it look like it used to? Will it look normal again? I'm quite a vain person and do have to admit that I "had" a beautiful looking vagina. My other problem is that I can't go to a doctor as I will be out the country for up to 6 months for occupational reasons. Please help. OH! And I'm also 24 years old and had many sexual partners. It's not like I'm a spring chicken that's never taken a penis before.

Thanks Nora. I've actually managed to get an emergency appointment at the doctors. They've taken a swab and prescribed me with antiviral pills as the doctor suspects herpes or another viral infection. I won't know for sure until the results come back. He also says its been lying dormant in my system unnoticed for years and that a stress factor has triggered it. I really don't know how to feel now. I'm shocked and ashamed and a little disgusted at myself. How can I have let this happen!? And what if I've infected my partner!? Is he still going to look at me and love me the same!? Surely he can't find me sexy anymore knowing I'm diseased for life...can he...?

It's called a vaginal fissure. It's totally normal. They always heal; just keep it cleanish. Dryness doesn't only refer to lubrication. The epidermis itself can be dry. I use olive oil or jojoba oil as a moisturizer. I also use Weleda calendula diaper care lotion for painful fissures. It contains zinc which is a natural antimicrobial. It also makes a rad deodorant.

Try masturbating, inserting a finger or two, and moving on to a dildo once you loosen up. Use plenty of lube, and go nice and slow. If all else fails, see your gynocologist. she may be able to help you decode what's going on.

You might be nervous, whe you're nervous you tense to you will be tigher.Just try to relax

Im 24 years old, and ever since I have been sexually active I have always experienced pain during intercourse. This has got progressively worse and I am now at a stage that I am unable to have sex without experiencing pain and discomfort with visable blood. I have seen sexual health consultants, my GP, been under a Gynaecology clinic and they finally discovered that when I have sex I tear in the opening of my vagina on my vaginal walls. These laserations then tear open each time I have intercourse. It appears there is nothing they can do for me, however for a 24 year old woman who is barely able to have sex I am running out of options. This is also extreamily frustrating for my partner. Is anyone able to help?

I was aware of a small vaginal tear, but i didnt pay too much attention to it. Every time to have intercourse, even sometimes when being fingered, i bleed. A lot. I had intercourse today, and it hurt so much, and yet again bled. A lot. It's really embarrasing for me, and it never used to happen. Only in the last few months. I checked when i got home while still in pain -more so than usual- and the tear is now...quite big. And i'm worried it will need stitches? Any partner i have had has said i'm so small they think im a virgin. And everytime it hurts - It's not really stretched at all. Its realy hitting my confidence and i dont know what to do. From what i've looked at it appears it could be a second degree tear? But surely you only get that in child birth. I cant tell from the pictures on the internet how bad it is... Help me!

I had the same problem, I went to the doctors and they just explained to keep it clean and use a cream like sudocreme. After two weeks it was so much better and after a month it had healed altogether. Just don't try and have sex during the healing process, it will just re-tear and you're back to square one.

For nearly eight years, 9 different gynocologist, 2 dermatologist, many different GPs, gynocology physiotherapy and getting worst over the years, no one cannot find a reason what i suffer from. all my vagina area is always got a papercut like tear on either side of my flaps, just above the clitorius there is a tear, and at the bottom of my vagina there is always a tear at the bottom. my anus area also has tears around the anus area. i do not use tampons as it will not allow me to insert it without tearing the outside of my vagina. sex is very painful. the first time my partner enter's into me even with lots of lubication and foreplay i still tear and takes weeks to heal. the vagina and anus area looks more pink in colour than normal. I do not suffer from thrush and this has been tested on many occasions. i have done the elmination diet and no success. i have used many different creams as prescribed my gynocologist, doctors etc and no sucess i wipe from front to back, i blow dry the vagina area after shower instead of wiping dry with a bath towel etc. just riding my push bike can tear my vagina and anus or doing a number 2. this problem is getting worst, it affects my sexual life with my partner. it really does affect my well being as i have tried everything and no one can give me an answer what is wrong with me and can it be cured. at times i can have up to three papercut look fine line on the sides of my flaps and the tear at bottom of vagina can double in size and nearly reaches my anus. i have used non soap downstairs, changed washing powder etc. does anyone else suffer like i do?

I hope this helps - I didn't have this problem, but my good highschool friend did. She finally got the advice she needed: She uses vaseline on herself. Vaseline is inert and not irritating. Don't put it inside, just generously on all the dry areas. You may have taken care of babies and noticed it works for them as well. Probably not a good thing to blow dry actually. She also went on the marena (?) coil. It's a birth control which for some reason the hormones also helped. Keep in mind, if you use vaseline and you have sex with a condom, it will actually melt/breakdown the condom. Don't ask how I figured that out :P I hope you're better soon!!

I recently had sex and during the intercourse I felt a lot of pain to my vagina and was extremely uncomfortable. A few days later I had a look down there and noticed was looked like white blisters and a tear between and vagina and anal. I have also noticed a change in discharge (very watery and lacking in any smell) can you tell me if I have caught an infection in the tear or if this is something different

this skin is nothing to worry about, your heiman is a thin piece of skin that covers the opening to the vagina, it will tear when you have sex which is why some people bleed a tiny bit the first time they have sex, activities such as horse riding can tear it aswell.

I am 23 and I had my first child two years ago. After giving birth my vagina had a tear in it and I had to get stitches. Six weeks passed by and the stitches dissolved and also the tear healed but a few months after I started experiencing very bad pain during intercourse. I've been to three different doctors and the best they could do so far is give me numbing cream and told me to dilate myself. The numbing cream helps during intercourse but not afterwards, my vagina hurts for at least two weeks after having sex! Is there anything else I can do? Is there a surgery that can fix my problem? I feel like I'm to young to not have an active sex life....

I recently realised I had a tear in my vaginal region I'm only 17 so i haven't had children. I was told to salt bathe when I went to the clinic and that it wasn't warts or anything, now I have 2 spots that have appeared on my vaginal lip, and about 5 or 6 spots near the 'tear' which is between my anus and my vagina. I can't go for a wee or bend down, it even hurts to move or walk. I don't know what to do! Please help me.

It feels like I have this extra bit of skin at the entrance to the vagina near the perinium and it feels really tight and that is where the tear is occurring. I don't know if there is a cream I could use or if it requires surgery. I really would appreciate some advice as I have gone to some Doctors about this and they don't want to know. At this stage I don't know who else to turn to.. Thanks

hi Siobhan, check out the thread on the vagina wall of photos page on this website, there is a question and answer between a girl called Nicola and me (dated the 4th feb so you will need to keep scrolling down)... it will save me writing it allover again... both of us have had an operation to fix this problem you are talking about and any GP who is any good will refer you to a specialist gynaecologist who can help you, for them to not help you is because they haven't seen it before, I was fobbed off for about 3 years before I found a doctor who would take me seriously (many others had insisted I had thrush even though I knew it wasn't!!!). if it is what I had then surgery is the only answer, but the good news is that it works. The leading gynae in this area of gynae is still Professor David Luesley as far as I know (he mainly works on cancer patients but also does this kind of reconstruction)- he did my operation and has allowed me to have a normal life. He works for the NHS and privately in the birmingham area so if you are anywhere near there it may help. You can insist that your doctor refers you to a specialist- it is your choice even though they might make you feel like it isn't! don't take no for an answer- you can even specify the doctor you want to see if they work on the nhs. Does this help? do you want any other info?

I have had two kids, and i didnt tear with the first one, but with the second one a did tear a little and the dr. Said that te tear was so small that, i wouldnt need stitches and that it would heal on its own. But i do notice a little while have intercourse with my husband that it feels differn't not like before, like its night as tight as it was before i had kids (sorry to be so graphic) but is this normal?

It burns if I pee , and it's hard for me to walk around or do any thing, I am going to the doctor in two days but I can't wait, it hurts so bad , please help

I ve noticed a small bit of my vagina has come out it looks like a flash cloured cheese string that comes from the bottom of my vagina and hags down to my anus not very bit. Every time i have sex the bottom of it really hurts im not sure if its meant to be there or my vagina has fell out? i ve tried to look up pictures of "normal vaginas" online but none of them have this piece of skin. I think it may be vaginal prolapse but i haven't had children, or a healed vaginal tear but wouldn't i of noticed if i teared my vagina?

I've suffered the same, except no dryness. With my last partner I tore for the first time after 2 months together and continued to tear from then on. I'm STD free and although the nurses tested me for thrush (as apparently I have suspicious discharge) it has always comes back clear too. I'm always fine at the beginning of sex but it burns at the end, especially when semen comes into contact with him. I've since read up on BV and I think it's likely I have it. I don't like taking too many anitbiotics so instead I ordered an internal gel from a gyno and my doctor also prescribed an eostrogen cream. They both seem to have helped but it's worth noting that I was using the eostrogem cream for 2 months before the BV cream and there was no change, only once I started using the BV gel was there a change. I feel like my tear might actually be healing fully now! After sex my discharge always smelt fishy which I attributed to the semen but apparently this isn't normal, it's because the semen has changed the PH in your vagina which leads to the smell and BV, which I attribute my tear to.

Help please, i have a tear on my vagina which occurred during oral sex, my partner bit my vagina and its now ripped very sore and throbbing its constantly spotting blood and im unsure of what to do and if it will heal by its self, im very embarressed and cant face going to the doctors. please advise asap
