I was aware of a small vaginal tear, but i didnt pay too much attention to it. Every time to have intercourse, even sometimes when being fingered, i bleed. A lot. I had intercourse today, and it hurt so much, and yet again bled. A lot. It's really embarrasing for me, and it never used to happen. Only in the last few months. I checked when i got home while still in pain -more so than usual- and the tear is now...quite big. And i'm worried it will need stitches? Any partner i have had has said i'm so small they think im a virgin. And everytime it hurts - It's not really stretched at all. Its realy hitting my confidence and i dont know what to do. From what i've looked at it appears it could be a second degree tear? But surely you only get that in child birth. I cant tell from the pictures on the internet how bad it is... Help me!

I'm not sure when I got the tear but I have never had sexual contact of any kind so I have no idea what could have caused it or what is wrong. I know I should go to the doctor but I can't bring myself to make the appointment, how worried should I be? WIll it heal?

Hi my name is Joanne 31 years old and i had my daughter 18 months ago i had a 3rd degree tear all down my vaginal wall and its only just getting easier whilst during sex (18 months later) its till feels a bit uncomfortable at first and then it does get easier, is this a normal time frame to heal from such a big tear or is it the scar tissue that may be causing the discomfort?

Im 24 years old, and ever since I have been sexually active I have always experienced pain during intercourse. This has got progressively worse and I am now at a stage that I am unable to have sex without experiencing pain and discomfort with visable blood. I have seen sexual health consultants, my GP, been under a Gynaecology clinic and they finally discovered that when I have sex I tear in the opening of my vagina on my vaginal walls. These laserations then tear open each time I have intercourse. It appears there is nothing they can do for me, however for a 24 year old woman who is barely able to have sex I am running out of options. This is also extreamily frustrating for my partner. Is anyone able to help?

Hi, had a similar problem with tearing at perinuem, and slight bleeding from the tear, went doctors and they suggested avoiding sex for few weeks to let heal (which you've prob done already) and use rectrogestic (which is for Anus, but she said could be used for perinum aswell) it's an ointment which is supposed to stimulate the blood flow in the area to help heal, mine was there for about 3 months, the cut would heal, have sex, then back, but would apply the ointment afterwards, and would constantly do that every time would re-appear, and now seems to have completely gone over time of using the ointment (had to be really patient with it), now mine is healed but have other tearing on vulva which trying to get a solution for, feels an endless battle so sympathise with you.

This is literally the same as me, for the past few years I have had issues with anal fissures and they happen even though I eat so much fibre and the stools are generally quite soft. In the last few months I have also started always getting tears on my perineum after sex. I mentioned this to the doctor who said to let it heal for 4weeks and then use lubricant. We did this and went gently but still resulted in a tear, it will always heal after a few days but also will always tear again if I try to have sex. I was wondering if the two things were related too, but no doctor has ever really explained this or suggested it is, and generally have kind of ignored it. This is very frustrating because these are two problems that I really don't want to have to live with and I want my sex life back to normal!

For the last 4 months, I keep tearing during sex. My GP wasn't interested so I went to the GU Clinic where they were much more helpful, and said that it was my fourchette which had torn, and that the tear that was there that day was very deep. It stings for weeks each time it tears, and bleeds a lot. The GU Clinic doctor, while very sympathetic, said that it was a difficult thing to treat. I was wondering if you have any advice. Even things like sexual positions to avoid. Also, what could help the tears heal when they are there? Each tear takes up to a month to heal, so I'm managing to have very little sex, as each time I have it, it takes a month to recover!

I'm really quite concerned about my vagina lately. I'm in a monogamous relationship and my partner and I have regular sex. Sometimes during sex it's quite sore on my uterus or like he has hit my cervix. Surely that's not right...? And sometimes I find a very small tear at the bottom of my vagina that heals within a day or two. This occurs even if there is plenty natural or synthetic lubrication. Most recently I have received a very large tear that is almost right to my anus. We last had sex over a week ago but it is only within the last few days that it has really been giving me problems and I have noticed it. What should I do about it? Will it heal naturally? And how long will that take? And if and when it does heal, will it look like it used to? Will it look normal again? I'm quite a vain person and do have to admit that I "had" a beautiful looking vagina. My other problem is that I can't go to a doctor as I will be out the country for up to 6 months for occupational reasons. Please help. OH! And I'm also 24 years old and had many sexual partners. It's not like I'm a spring chicken that's never taken a penis before.

Thanks Nora. I've actually managed to get an emergency appointment at the doctors. They've taken a swab and prescribed me with antiviral pills as the doctor suspects herpes or another viral infection. I won't know for sure until the results come back. He also says its been lying dormant in my system unnoticed for years and that a stress factor has triggered it. I really don't know how to feel now. I'm shocked and ashamed and a little disgusted at myself. How can I have let this happen!? And what if I've infected my partner!? Is he still going to look at me and love me the same!? Surely he can't find me sexy anymore knowing I'm diseased for life...can he...?

It's called a vaginal fissure. It's totally normal. They always heal; just keep it cleanish. Dryness doesn't only refer to lubrication. The epidermis itself can be dry. I use olive oil or jojoba oil as a moisturizer. I also use Weleda calendula diaper care lotion for painful fissures. It contains zinc which is a natural antimicrobial. It also makes a rad deodorant.

I'm disappointed with the lack of information on tearing. The link to the NHS site is about episiotomies not tears. I had a 2nd degree tear when I had my son 7 months ago but although I knew I'd torn as I was stitched up I only found out I had a 2nd degree tear by reading my notes. I didn't know what a 2nd degree tear meant, where I had torn or that sex would still be incredibly uncomfortable 7 months later.

I had a 3Rd degree tear after having my son on the 16the sept 2013, but when I have sex, it feels like a burning stretching sensation where the tear is. I don't know if this is the norm as midwives and doctors have been very blunt with me and don't seem to listen.

I am 19 and have this problem of having very watery eyes. I find my eyes water much more in windy weather and when i make a sudden movement. I have seen an eye specialist, and he said I have very narrow tear ducts and I was offered an operation to widden my tear ducts. However I didnt decide to have the operation as I didnt want to cause any extra damage to my eyes and its not unbearable. I do wear eye liner a lot, do you think that's what may have caused the narrowing of my tear ducts?

For the past 4 years I have had tendency for the skin on my penis to tear, mainly just below the glans where the tissue is quite soft. The problem is that when the tear heals, it seems to fuse with the skin around it which can make it painful when I have sex and more likely that the skin will tear again. I have seen 2 consultants and have been given some mild steroid cream which improved things but it doesn't cure the problem, - my skin is still likely to split and the fusing seems to make it all worse - a bit of a spiral. Looking at other websites it looks like it could be some kind of a bacterial infection - lychen something or other. I am tired of just putting up with this and would like some advice - thanks.

I had a simular problem- i got swine flu which also caused my to get conjunctivitus, when the conjunctivitus cleared up my eye was still constantly watering so i was having to carry a tissue around all day everyday. after a year and half of suffering i got the diagnosis of blocked tear ducts this week i have had surgery to unblock my tear ducts in my eye...The surgery i had to have included breaking the top of my nose and putting plastic tubes in my tear ducts after they were unblocked that will be removed in a month or so it might be worth mentioning to your doctor if theproblem is still not sorted... I hope this helps :)

after my partner and i had sex i was very sore. I tore a little bit at the bottom of my vaginal opening. I am also very dry. And it hurts when i go to the loo, i get a stinging sensation. Sitting is not very comfortble cos of wear the tear is it is only a small tear but painfull. Please can you give me some advice as to what is causing this and how i go about relieving it thank.

It hurts to have sex with my partner to the point he knows i do not want to have sex. It causes me to tear and I also tear for no reason which makes it very painful when going to the toliet why does this happening and what can I do to stop this. I have been to the doctors and my local clinic however they don't seem to be able to provide me with any answers. We have used lubricants which just seem to sting and make the problem worse.
