Some women are just unlucky and get thrush alot no matter what the doctors give you. Some handy tips are avoiding bubble baths, reduce wearing pants and tight trousers lots of the time and even microwaving your knickers! sounds crazy but kills the bugs! Trush loves warm and wet conditions - bad news for us ladies! Trush can be passed on through sex, so it could be that a partner gives it back to you, and the cycle continues. A good way is to use the white tablets which you insert into you (not eat) and do that for three nights in a row. That usually blasts the beasts. You can also get external creams to make the itching lessen. Hope that's some use

i've got thrush and before the symptoms showed i had unprotected (except birth control) with my long term partner i know neither of us have an STI (as we've been checked during our relationship) how ever he has also got thrush but has red sports or dots on the shaft of his penis, is this part of the thrush?

Your boyfriend needs to get treated for thrush too. It is no good just treating yourself and him getting no treatment (even if he suffers from no symptoms) as every time you have sex you are just re-infecting yourself. This will not go away until he is treated.

Hi I too keep getting Oral Throat Thrush, this is linked with your immune system, try looking at foods thats boost your immune system, like turkey and blueberries. I have had this since Januray this year and all medicines and still i have this uncomfortable feeling, sore throat with the white fur on the tongue, i would recommend keep on at your doctors, there is plenty of information about this condition on the web, good luck! sally

im 26, ive always been careful to attend all my smear tests and i go to the STI clinic when i start new relationships. My STI results have always come back negative but last year my smear test returned abnormal so I had a colposcopy and they took biopsies and i am currently waiting for those results. Every single time i have had an examination i get told i have thrush, although i never have symptoms until 2 weeks after. I am usually prescribed the canesten pill and my gp says each time it will be cleared. My last smear was 2 months ago, i had thrush after and the usual canesten. I had no thrush symptoms at the time of my colposcopy which was 2 weeks ago but My Gyno said she could see a thick discharge around my cervix. I now have thrush again. She also said the reason my smears might be abnormal is possibly due to having thrush. Im following all doctors advice such as diet, clothing, not using soaps, only having showers and not douching etc. I only seem to have thrush symptoms (itching, discharge) AFTER an examination... is this common? or have i just had constant thrush for 2 years?

im 27 and ive had a problem with what i thought was thrush, but after using just about every thrush product under the sun i still seem to have a really thick white discharge i cant get rid of, sometimes its really paste like and my vagina is really dry. but it doesnt itch, or smell. when i had the doctor check it she said its just thrush or it may just be the way i am. i have lived with this for well over a year now and its so embarrassing to even consider having a relationship with anyone. i really want this sorted so could there be something the doctor has missed?

I had the same problem. Its probably a bacterial problem so use hydrocortisone cream with a low percentage (because its on a sensitive body part) should clear up after a few days

I have a pain in my left lower rib and I've had it for about 2 weeks so I went to the doctors who did a vaginal test (god knows why) so I went along with it and to go on with I was treated for thrush (yet the only symptom I had was an off discharge and the pain was in my rib) anyway i used the treatment and now the cream is making me feel like I have thrush, my results came back negative for sti's and thrush and a urine infection, yet my rib is still hurting, what could be going on? I'm confused

Iam a 22yr old female. I have suffered with recurring Thrush for the past few years. My GP is at a loss of what to treat me with now, as most treatments work for for me for a few months and then the thrush returns. My last treatment has been a course of anti thrush(sorry can't remember what they're called)tablets 1 a week for 6months, and even that has not worked as the thrush has been coming back between taking the tablets. I have been tested for STI's, but the results keep diagnosing me with... Thrush. This is really getting me down now. I need to know what i can do now, which would hopefully rid me of thrush forever!! Please help?!!!

I am 19 and I think I have thrush. I have not had sex, so I'm almost sure that I don't have an STI, however my discharge smells sort of like over fried onions, and is usually a yellowish colour. I also have hyperhidrosis,(extreme sweating) which I think might be part of the ichiness I get in my vagina. Another problem is I am so shy I can barely talk to men, let alone go to the doctors about this. However I would like to get it sorted. My main concern is that it is not thrush, and if I buy some thrush treatment and it does nothing, then I won't know if its thrush or not, and from what I've read here it seems thrush treatments don't always work. Maybe my symptoms aren't thrush but how can they be if I haven't had sex, so I can't have an STI. Some advice would be appreciated. Also is it normal to ask for a woman GP to see me if I ever get up the courage to go? Thanks

It is commpletly normal to request to see a female doctor. Get to the GP and get it sorted.

It does sound like thrush. But whatever it is, and especially if it's thrush (it's probably thrush), you must BOTH get treated, so you're both going to have to see your GPs and then keep things above the waist whilst you're healing, otherwise you'll just keep passing it back and forth to each other. If the thrush returns later, you should look into why you're developing thrush, as it could very well be a reaction you're having to condoms, lubricant, or other products you may be using (antibiotics frequently cause thrush). You could be sensitive to your boyfriend's semen, causing the bacteria in your vagina to go out of balance which lets the yeasty-beasties take over and give you thrush. It's highly unlikely that your boyfriend is allergic to your vaginal secretions and cervical mucous (we women don't make semen). Hope that helps.

Hello, Your Right thrush is not an STI but can be passed on from female to male or even male to female. there are lots of reason for someone getting thrush this could be from having sex with someone who as thrush or even your diet thrush is caused from a build up of yeast in the body try and stay off foods that have a lot of yeast in them and away from things that have lots of sugars in also thrush like dark and damp place so dry well after showering. you should also not have sex while you have thrush or if you know that someone has it because this can cause it to be passed back to you. however if you have had thrush then you should also make sure the your boyfriend/girlfriend go the there GP also because you don't want to be passing it back to each other.

could quite possibly be thrush still. some people are prone to getting recurrent thrush. dermatitis of external from thrush. if it goes away when you use antifungals then chances are its thrush. (sometimes white discharge not completely visible) if its green/yellow and smells bad... you better go see a doc to get it treated with antibiotics...thats trachamoniasis (aka std)

I need help, I am 17, I get thrush with antibiotics but I haven't been on any in months, 5 days ago I got symptoms after having sex with my boyfriend, at first I thought it was friction but it looks a lot like thrush , Iv tried thrush cream and showering daily but it's a struggle in school and when I try to sleep, also I hear honey can result in thrush and Iv been eating it lately before I realised, any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I'm 17 and have been suffering with recurrent thrush since may 2013, I've been prescribed pessaries and that clears the thrush up no problem but I find after a month or so it keeps coming back. It's extremely uncomfortable and very irritating, I have done a urine sample at my local doctors and they said its nothing to worry about. I'm on the pill and I've heard rumors that the hormones in the pill could cause thrush but I'm not so certain. I do have sex with my partner quite frequently never when I have thrush I'm starting to think that he could have it and be passing it on to me? Is it possible for a man to have thrush and not have any obvious symptoms? I can't keep going on like this its so frustrating and is really knocking my self esteem down

yes it is possible for a man to trasmit thrush. You should both be treated, otherwise he will keep giving it back to you.

i have tried everything over the past 12 years to clear up thrush/yeast. i would get cleared up only to have sex and be reinfected by my partner who had a hard time believing he was carrying it. Finally my midwife had me use Borax/boric acid. I encapsulated it and inserted 2 times a day. We mixed up a solution of boric acid or Borax with water in a little spray bottle and kept it in the shower for my husband to wash and rinse his penis with. I wished so much that I had tried this remedy years ago when i had heard of it but had thought it sounded too harsh! It made my vagina feel so clean fresh and pure so fast and was not harsh at all! and it really worked for both of us!

i have really bad thrush, i've had it for about 4 days now and it has not got better. i dont want to tell my mum so would i be able to buy thrush cream over the counter as i'm 15? also i had sex while i've had thrush which has made it worse, so i dont recommend sex while having thrush

hi i have thrush badly and it is so sore i had creem and it helps a lote

Antibiotics can cause thrush because the antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your gut. Maybe you still have thrush because of the antibiotics you have had. Talk to your pharmacist about your resent thrush infection and they may recommend another fluconazole Also if you are sexually active you might want to get your partner treated for thrush it is not an STI however it can be passed between partners. I have read that acidophilus can be used to put good bacteria into your gut after taking antibiotics and may prevent thrush (not cure it only prevent) I take acidophilus especially when I take antibiotics and it does seem to prevent thrush from covering after the antibiotic treatment. Best wishes

If its sore and itchy you may have thrush! Go to your doctor, or google thrush symptons and if its sounds like that then get the thrush cream from the chemist!

It maybe that you both have thrush, it may not be directly due to an STI I don't know how old you both are and if Uve had other partners but if either one or both of you have had sex with previous partners then there is a possibility only if you haven't been to a clinic after your last relationships. Not all people who have thrush get discharge, it can be very itchy, sore and irritated. I would advise your gf sees a gp or sexual health clinic for tests, if it is thrush then you should both be treated as thrush can be passed on through sex but it's not sexually transmitted.

Can you get this without having had sex? Not even a tampon has been inside me, I am 18. Is it more likely then that I have thrush? I don't want to see a doctor, can I take an over the counter pill for thrush, and if it turns out it's not thrush i have will there be any damage done, having taken it?

If the thrush cream isnt working then it isnt necessarily thrush. I would go to the doctors and tell them what you have tryed and see what the suggest.

Sounds like you may have thrush and it may be painful due to scratching, you do NOT have to be sexually active to have thrush,Do you also have a discharge? see your Gp, this can be easily treated if it is thrush. You may need to have some swabs done to check for infection.

Sounds like thrush thrush can occur through many things from certain shower gels or not washing properly make an appointment with you gp and he will give you thrush cream hope I could help

Hi, My problem is almost exactly the same as courtney's (posted 4th june) I think i have thrush, as my vagina is very itchy, and uncomfortable. This has been going on for about 6 months now, i have tried thrush creams and tablets, i have been to the doctors and she gave me other thrust things, nothing has helped in the slightest. i have been with my boyfriend for 18 months, and he is the only person i have slept with, i dont have any sti's and have several swops for thrush and only one has shown mild thrush. The doctor seems to have given up, and said that it must be just how i am. But its awful. What can i do? please help, its really affecting me day to day and my sex life. thanks.

I know thrush is not an STI but I've been told it can be passed to a partner during sex. Is it possible that a if a girl with thrush has sex, she could give the boy thrush? Even if they used a condom?

it might butly its a LOT better to treat it as soon it appears. if you've never had thrush before then you should go and see a doctor to check that thrush *is* the problem rather than bacterial vaginosis or some other infection but if you're certain that its thrush you can pick up the tablets and creams from the chemist.
