I am a 20 year old female with thinning hair, no other health problems. I have never had thick hair but it has never been this thin, and my parents said my hair was much thicker when I was younger. I have tried sea kelp and hair skin and nail vitamins from Holland and barrett but they haven’t help I have also tried alpecin shampoo and it never worked. Is there anything I can do or take to re-grow my hair I am very self conscious about it and I am worried that my hair will keep thinning. Thanks

Hi, I am 21 and I have had a lot of hair loss of my head for a while and I have noticed my hair is a lot thinner than before and I think I can noticed my hair line thinning as well so am really worrying as do not want to go bold. I also have hair all over my body since puberty. Its not very long and thick, its short, fine hair but still noticeable and its everywhere. I haven't removed any body hair besides legs, arms and pubic areas as do not want it to get worse. I am currently having laser hair removal on my legs but not sure if it’ll work on others areas such as my stomach as is finer hair and I am Indian. Is there anything I can do? Should I consult with doctor and is there anything that can be done? Thank you

Hi Kiran. Typically men who have high levels of the hormone testosterone generally have quite a bit of body hair. Strangely enough, the same chemical responsible for hair growth on the body can also cause hair to thin on the top of the head. The reason for this is because (for reasons still unknown to science) the hairs on the top of the head are sensitive to a chemical called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) which is a form of testosterone. What happens next is that the hairs on the top of the head tend to go into the 'sleep' stage of their development, which means that the hair follicle will only produce thin, short, pale hairs. There are many treatments for this kind of hair thinning such as Rogaine, Procepia and Growthex. For example, Growthex works by putting the hair back in to the 'growth' phase so the hair follicle start producing thicker longer hairs.

it doesnt matter how fine the hair is, laser hair removal damages the hair follicle and prevents any more hair growing. if you go to your doctor they can discuss options with you. but i also think you should consult the doctor about the hair loss as this could be caused by a few things such as hormonal problems, so best get it checked out!

I am a 17yr old female and i, like many others who have posted here, have hair ALL OVER my body. My whole leg is covered in hair, not one spot is hair less. Arms too. Facial hair is getting worse as i grow older, they are not obvious from far but if you were to be 10cm or closer to me you could definitely see those unpleasant looking growths. My body and back is also so hair. I dare say that my whole body is covered in hair, the only place that is hair-free is probably my palms and soles.. Help this makes me feel horrible. Even wearing things as simple as shorts and a shirt that has shorter sleeves is troublesome as i have to epilate constantly.. Are there any drugs or treatments i can go through?

You may be correct that you haven't completed puberty yet, but it's also possible that you will be a guy that has very little body hair. I have a friend who is 35 years old and he has no armpit hair at all! These are just normal human variations.

Hi, Im a 16 year old girl and i have an excessive hair problem, i have hair almost all over my body and it just brings my confidence down. I feel very conscious when getting changed in school for p.e and i feel very embarrassed. I have to think about what to wear, and it's worse because I have a boyfriend, he loves me alot and for me, but I'm afraid of what he'll think. As most guys are less attractived to girls with hair in wrong places. I can deal with the facial hair, and hair on my arms and legs, but I really don't know what to do about the hair on my tummy, back and pubic places, has anyone got any solutions that could help me out?

Hello, I found the best way to deal with this is bleaching, But I get the bleach from a friendly hairdresser as stronger bleach works much faster that cosmetic preparations. It works on arms back and face. Please don't worry about your boyfriend,if he loves you he will love you because along with our problem the plus factor is that we tend to be great in bed, all that testosterone!

I'm 14 and I have the same problem. I don't know what I can do! I really want help.

Hi, I am 15 1/2 years old and I have had alopecia almost since birth. I have never been happy with this and around 2 years ago I decided to begin shaving my hair. This has lead to reduced hair re-growth to the point were my hair is now only growing on two small patches on my scalp. I have had injections which helped the re-growth somewhat but I finished my course of treatment and the progress was lost. I would like to know if there is anything else that I could try? Another question is body hair. I do have body hair around the genitals and armpits. However, I do not have any hair on the forearms, legs or chest. The hair on my armpits is also much less than that of my friends. I would like to know if this is at all linked with alopecia and if there is any help I could get on this as well? Thanks

Hi, I'm 19 yr old female and when I just turned 15 I was diagnosed with a Underactive Thyroid. Before I was diagnosed I noticed that I tired all day and hair loss. My hair would fall out in clumps when I brush my hair and wash it. Went to my GP and the perscribed me with Levothyroxine tablets with a dosage of 25 micrograms. As the years gone on I've seen a huge increase of hair loss and no growth of the hairs. I've tried hair pieces, wigs and massaging my head everyday to help the hair growth but nothing has worked yet. I have made many apppointments with my GP to see if I can get an increase on my medication but I've been told that 25 micrograms is the right amount for me. I've had have a appointment with a Dermatologist but I had no help to find out why my hair is not growing. 4 years of continuing hair loss has took its toll on me, I would like to find some way of making my hair grow, please can you help me??

I am 17 yers old & for about a 2/3 yrs now I've been noticing that quite alot of my hair falls out. I haven't got any bald patches and I'm not bald. I dont straighten or curl my hair, I don't use anything that may damage my hair but alot of my hair still falls out. All I have to do is run my fingers through my hair or brush my hair and loads of hair come out. It doesnt come out in clumps but alot of strands of hair come out. I asked my mum & she says it is normal for hair to fall out but I think the amount that falls out for me is not normal. Please help me as this is really upsetting for me. And is there anything I can take to stop this happening. Or if you could atleast tell me what this is I would very much appreciate it. Thank you.

Hey. I'm going to be seventeen next month and I've had embarrassing facial hair, back hair, and hair below my belly button AND on my chest since I was about fourteen. I figured that it would just go away after a while, but it never has. :[ Summer is coming up and I got an adorable bathing suit, but I'm scared to wear it because of the hair on my body. Is there any way to lighten the color of the hair or to get rid of it permanantly AND naturally? I don't have the money for laser hair removal and shaving only makes the hair grow back thicker...

I am currantly 26 and have been losing my hair since 18, i have tried regaine with no effect and it has effected my confidence alot since it started. I have very thin soft white or blonde hair now almost like baby hair on the top which grows really slowly and much thinner than the dark brown hair on the sides. I would really like some feedback on this baby hair thats growing on top or is it to late to get my hair back ????

I suffered with this for about 5 years, where i would twist the hair on my head into small knots and then slowly pull the knot until the hair would rip out from the roots, i would then either chew the hair, mainly crunshing the knot with my teeth or would rub the hair and knot on my skin, then would generally hide the clump of hair until i had a collection then would put it in the bin. I never realised that other people suffered from this. i felt that to stop doing it, i had to wash my hair more as it seemed i pulled out more hair when it was dirty or full of products, almost like i was cleansing myself by pulling the dirty hair out, i also found it was near on impossible to produce a good knot whilst my hair was wet. i manage not to do it much at all now unless my hair is dirty or if i'm really stressed. I hope this helps anyone that is suffering at the moment. x

im 22 years old. i have had problems with my hair since i was a little girl. my hair falls out and can leave me with a large area of boldness.the only thing is that there is no trace of my hair when it falls out, none on my pellow brush ect... ive seen doctors specailist but they never found an answer. i have not had a full head of hair since i was abot six, when it all started. i hate it, i was bullied every day a my primary school. i have never been able to wear my hair down, ive always have to cover it up in any way i can, this is what i have done for most my life, it went from wearing a cap to bandaneres just so people would see and make fun. i watched a epesode last year where you sent an asian lady to have an hair piece added to her own hair to hide her hair loss, and i was hoping that you could help me in some way. i really would like to be able to wear my hair down some day and feel like a women. if you could help me please let me know. thank you

I straighten my hair every day for a month without using any heat protect product. I noticed that hair is falling from roots and immediately i stopped straightening . Now after a year without using straightener, hair is still falling especially when i wash my hair i see like 2 to 15 hair every time i penetrate my hand into my hair to wash it. Could result in baldness within a few years?

I wouldnt worry about it.You normally lose alot of hair everyday day.You are probably just noticing it more from being paranoid. I doubt it had to do with straightening.I have thin hair and have been losing about 20 or more when I wash. Its been 30 years since I noticed and I am not any thinner than I was.If you are worried talk to a doc but if you google it Im sure you will see its very normal.
