I was diagnosed with Behcet's disease in 2010 when I was 14 years old. It began with severe mouth ulcers and all the other symptoms shortly followed. However, this site says that there is a regular occurrence in mouth ulcers for Behcet's sufferers but I have not had a flare up for 4 years now. No more ulcers since that dreaded time in 2010. Is this also common? Fingers crossed it will carry on this way!

I went almost years without a break from oral lesions.. At that point I was diagnosed and the doctors started to try different medicines... I was put on steroids and it stopped the oral lesions almost completely... Could medicine be the reason for you not having them? Also, stress is a huge trigger, maybe you have been less stressed?

HI!!! I know that ulcers on the walls of our mouth and on our tongues are very common like stated above, however, i suffer from them quite frequently, causing me alot of discomfort. So I would like to know if there is anything that causes me to have such frequent ulcers. thanks

I'm am also 17, have only slept with one boy (who I have now been with for two years) and was unlucky enough to have the same problem. Mine did turn out to be herpes, and I was told that it was likely my boyfriend had got it from previous sexual relationships in the past, but hadn't shown any symptoms. It is very painful, and not a nice experience especially when you don't deserve such rubbish luck, but the symptoms quickly go once you take the course of pills. As sorry as I am for you, it makes me feel a lot better to know I'm not alone with this.. hope it's the same for you.

I have about 3 ulcers on my stomach. I've been in extreme pain for so long. I throw up blood quite a lot and I've had blood in my stools too. I've been to the hospital but they only gave me medicine that doesn't help and took some tests. I'm somewhat anemic. When I go to the hospital/doctor/er they say they can't do anything about my bleeding ulcers or pain. What doni do?

Look up the SCD (specific carbohydrate diet) lots of networks and things on the Internet and also a book by Ellain Gottshall called breaking the vicious cycle. If you are not severe enough for surgery this could help you before that happens. I've had the surgery and I'm going to try the diet further down the line. Good luck

Hi all I have been reading all the comments and not sure if anyone can help. My Dad is currently in hospital. He has already lost one leg due to ulcers and now it seems is on track to ose the other as the angiogram carried out went wrong and caused a blood clot. Now the blood won't flow properly and he has 4 large ulcers on his lower leg. Is there a specialist anywhere in the South East that anyone knows of? We will be suing the hospital for the mistake but right now i just want to try and save the leg. Does massaging the foot help at all with circulation?

I used to suffer from mouth ulcers like the ones your talking about, couldn't eat drink I would be almost crying brushing my teeth morning and night, I don't really suffer now...it was a couple of things for me, the toothpaste or any mouthwash I used aggravated it colegate is the only toothpaste that is OK for me to use with a softer tooth brush. lip balm if I use it starts ulcers on the insides of my lips because although I didn't realise it I roll my lips like when your applying all the time. I also used to flick my back tooth with my tongue which used to set all the side blisters off..and also very hot drinks would be likely to set them off. I lost loads of weight because eating was so uncomfortable... so try and get some stews and mash potato, soup and bread...when your low on energy the mouth ulcers are worse..im just contious of not rolling my lips and flicking my teeth when I'm nervous or stressed and find the right toothpaste x I really hope this helps x

Unfortunately I don't think you can ever stop mouth ulcers from appearing but you can halt them and stop them growing bigger by applying Kenalog in Orabase paste before you go to bed. After max of 2 nights application they are gone! I swear by this and have been using it for 20+ yrs- it's a lifesaver :)

What is the most effective way in dressing "leg ulcers"? A TVN was instructing to use diprobase with warm water to wash the leg ulcers and then leave the bathe legs ulcers for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash again with warm water. After this procedure apply flamazine cream on the ulcers and cover it with non-adherent dressings and then cover with secondary dressing of mesorb bandaged in place by a cotton-like rolled bandage and then a net bandage. Is this correct? The ulcers is not responding to treatment in fact it is getting worse.

My son is 26 and has suffered terribly with mouth ulcers since he was a teenager. He has had blood tests etc and has tried lots of different types of oral medication. Nothing seems to be helping him and the ulcers are non stop. I watched the show last night where they looked at ulcers, there must be a solution somewhere. Any help or advice would be well appreciated. Thanks.

In November 2013 I developed painful aphthous mouth ulcers. The ulcers are now pretty much constant. My autoimmune screening is Negative. I am not anaemic or vitamin deficient. I have seen a ENT and a Dermatologist with no satisfaction. Is there anyone who has this condition and could tell me what treatment has worked to clear up the ulcers permanently.

I suffered from mouth ulcers for years! They were terrible, I would always have 1 or 2 at a time. I changed my toothpaste after reading an article on ulcers. Look for a toothpaste with SLS (sodium laurel sulphate) Within a week of using this my ulcers were gone. If I use one with SLS even for a day I get an ulcer. Sensodyne gentle whitening is the one I use, it is around £5 per tube but often on special.

I have constant mouth ulcers, which are on avarage 4mm in diameter. I initaly put it down to citrus or acidic fruit, as within seconds of drinking pure orange juice or an apple, or a fresh tomato, I would have ulcers in my mouth. Treatment wise I have tried everything there is both over the counter and prescribed, I've yet to see something that works… however I have recently been using CB12 mouthwash and my ulcers are not so frequent….

I have bachets decease and have had it for 3 years now. When it first happened and woke up and could hardly see or walk. I've lost my job, I've lost my kids my driving licence and my 3 bedroom houses.I've got memory problems. And a very weak left side I take prednisone, omeprazole, citalopram, and methotrexate. Sodium tablets. I use to get genital ulcers before I was diagnosed. The steroids keep me alive I was close to death. I wouldn't wish this illness on me my own worst enemy. But if you do have it good luck. I would love to meet someone who is going through the same as me

I am a 34 year old man. I have suffered with mouth ulcers since my early 20's. I too have been to numerous doctors and consultants - the best they can offer is, "You may grow out of it", and "Yes, I get mouth ulcers from time to time - have you tried Bonjella?" Any advice on how to treat/prevent recurrent mouth ulcers (I rarely go a week without any) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :(

My Dad (77) had very bad leg ulcers a few years ago. He had them dressed by the nurse for about 6 months with no improvement. In the end I did some research and got him some magnets which you wear around the knee to improve circulation. These seemed to work and his ulcers cleared up completely. In my experience lack of circulation is a key contributor to ulcers not healing so anything which promotes this should assist the healing process. Hope this info can be useful to someone.

Hi, I have constant mouth ulcers and genital ulcers and I have suffered from these all my life, not constantly but since I have had my one year old I seem to have them constantly. i have been to the doctors many times but they keep telling me i have bacterial vaginosis and I am very run down, i also had a blood clot in my arm 2 years ago despite me being only 8 stone and 27 years old and i have never taken the pill, i was told by my consultant I was just unlucky..i have been told by the doctors i am tired all the time due to me having 3 children...could I have the symptoms of Behcets..The ulcers I describe are constant down below but they come and go in my mouth since having my son, who is one I would have a bout of ulcers in my mouth every other week and down below is constant..I have had 7 lots of antibiotics in the last year these work for around a week after and then the symptoms come back..It's extremely painful..The ulcers down below are always filled with puss (sorry to much information..) and are extremely painful..Do you think that the mouth ulcers and genital ulcers are linked or do you think I am just run down..Which ever I would really like to get to the bottom of them and I have heard that my blood clot could be linked to behcets..Any ideas??

I have a number of ulcers down below in my vagina and vulva. To begin with i thought it was thrush and then herpes but have every test possible and all negative. My blood tests have all come back negative for any viral infection. so i have now had a biopsy of the ulcer and my cervix and await the results. The ulcers are healing but it has been agony to go to the looe. I have also had some lesions form where the ulcers have healed together and caused labial fusion. Any ideas or suggestions what it could be??

The ulcers are not only in the mouth but on her tongue and she can hardly speak or eat which is making her depressed. She has asked her doctor to be referred to a consultant but he has refused saying just have another blood test which has shown previously to be alright. Can you please help. My daughter has a full time job where she has to speak on the telephone and these ulcers when they return are affecting her job. Please help.

Hi I have serious mouth ulcers most of the time and the doctors don't know why. I've had blood tests to see what might be the problem and tried alot of products that ease them. I want to know why. I have mouth ulcers for the length of time I'm off cigarettes which is 5 years. I would like to know was the cigarettes keeping away mouth ulcers? I wouldn't smoke again I want to just know would that be the answer?

I am off smoking two years and I do too suffer from these month ulcers the last year or so and I've also had blood tests with no results??

I am 17 years old and have suffered from mouth ulcers for as long as I can remember, however a year ago, they got much worse. If 1 ulcer develops, more will come, leaving up to 10 ulcers in my mouth and tonsils at once. Also when I get ulcers my tongue goes lumpy and swollen at the edges, which is also extremely painful. I have been to the doctors and they just aren't interested. I need to find a way to get rid of them because they have taken over my life. I cannot talk or barely move my mouth at the moment, which is stopping me from working and attending college.

I totally agree with Julian with regards towards sodium laureth sulphate. I have suffered with mouth ulcers constantly since the age of 11. I am now 29 and my doctor literally shrugs his shoulders and says that 'ulcers are funny things and that we simply do not know what causes them' I read a couple of years ago that toothpaste that contains sodium laureth sulphate can be quite abrasive towards more sensitive mouths and that switching to a natural one can help clear up or keep reacurring ulcers to only a few. I changed and I have to honestly say that I have noticed a huge change. Yes I still get ulcers - have some now! but I don't tend to get as many as I used too. However if there was another alternative/remedy I would gladly give it ago. I find mouthwashes to harsh on my mouth and as soon as I use it I can feel my mouth itching. It is the same with Mars chocolate, acidic things such as tomatoes and pineapple. When I get an outbreak I get incredibly low, I cannot eat as it hurts too much and usually stick to something pretty basic such as Readybreak as it doesn't annoy any ulcers.
