    Vaginal Tearing

A vaginal tear most commonly occurs during the birth of a baby, when the baby’s head stretches the opening of the vagina. Read more →

I am a 32 year female old virgin, and happy to remain so until I marry the right guy. ;) After each period when the bleeding stops, I frequently experience vaginal and labial dryness and discomfort. I have been to my GP and we have ruled out any yeast/bacterial infection. I'm just a bit dry after my periods. I am looking for a non-hormonal vaginal/labial moisturiser. K-Y jelly etc are ok but being water based they need frequent reapplication. Some brands I've found contain tea tree oil. In my experience tea tree oil is very potent stuff! Is it suitable and safe to use in intimate areas? Can you recommend any brands of longer lasting and soothing vaginal moisturisers?

The dryness could be down to lack of estrogen after your period. I'm not sure about lubricants etc but after a little bit of research there are some foods that can help naturally boost your estrogen levels. They are: apples, alfalfa, barley, baker's yeast, beets, cherries, chickpeas, carrots, celery, cucumbers, dates, fennel, oats, olives and olive oil, papaya, peas, plums, pomegranates, potatoes, beans, rhubarb, rice, tomatoes, wheat and yams. Seeds such as sesame seeds, flaxseed and sunflower seeds also help to boost levels of this hormone in the body.

Hi. I've experienced abnormal heavy vaginal bleeding for 4 months. It originally commenced 1 wk post a normal period. When it first began the bleeding was thick, very dark in colour (brown/black) and very heavy. It was continuous. I then would be due for a period and experience 5-7 days without bleeding following a period. After the second month of continuous heavy bleeding I seeked medical advice. The GP suspected I am menopausal. No exam, bloods etc conducted. The bleeding is no longer thick in constency or dark in colour and now appears red in colour but just as heavy and continuous. I am just 41 years old. I dont feel I am experiencing any other symptoms associated with the menopause. I am asymptomatic otherwise. My periods have otherwise been normal previously. I have a non hormonal coil fitted. I take medications for familial high cholesterol. I have 3 children. First was normal delivery and second two were C-sec. Please advise. I feel somewhat foolish at prospect of seeking app with my GP again if this is normal if I am simply menopausal. But I am not personally convinced.

I am 25 years old. I have not had a period since beginning of january this year and am definitely not pregnant. I have PCOS and every so often my periods go haywire. Either bleeding lasting a month or two or no bleeding. Also my blood flow in period ranges from very heavy to small amount. I have had lower pelvic pain for the last month. I have noticed the last couple of days i have a clear vaginal discharge with blood and clots in it. Is this anything to worry about.

I have suffered with random vaginal bleeding between periods ever since i started them aged 13. i have tried the contraceptive injection which made me bleed all the time, and have since tried the contraceptive implant to control this. i have had tests and examinations all of which have found nothing. for the last 12 months i have had to use the implant and the contraceptive pill in order to stop this bleeding at any time other than a period. i have no idea what is causing this as no doctor has ever explained it and my blood tests are normal. i am getting down about this as it has been happening for the last 11 years! any advice?

I had my menopause at 39, had 10 years of HRT which did nothing and from 39 to 58 sweated uncontrollably until I could stand it no longer. Last August, my GP again prescribed HRT and I have not stopped bleeding very heavily since. In March I had a hysteroscope and all was normal although I was and am still bleeding very heavily. I have no break at all from bleeding. I am exhausted and really can't put up with this situation any longer. The first HRT stopped the sweats but I changed to another to stop the bleeding. The bleeding continues and the sweats have come back. Please help!

Mate, he has just raped you... That shouldn't be taken lightly :/ He may have given you some sort of infection, you should get this checked out. ://

You were raped. It sounds like the act was so vile that you may have been hurt internally or a sexually transmitted infection may have taken place too. You need to see a doctor immediately to see if he infected you with anything. Tell him or her the truth about how it happened. There should be laws keeping your identity as a rape victim private. It's obvious you are still bothered over this.

I had the implant put in last year (I'm eighteen and had it to sort out my generally heavy period) after a couple of months I noticed a significant differenence in my periods. They became more regular as in I would have one every other week, and they became heavier than they had been before. I went back to my doctor and had the implant removed after just one year, they were hesitant because they insisted that the implants cost the government a lot of money. Since then my periods have gone back to the way they were before, on time however they remain heavy. I believe it's just the implant.

Hi, I had my first mirena coil fitted on 28/11/12 and ever since I have been bleeding, only small amounts, but constant. in january the bleeding started to get heavier so i went back to the sexual health clinic for swabs and it turned out that i had thrush and bacterial vaginosis so i completed the medications for these. this stopped my bleeding for about 3 days. then i started bleeding again very lightly. do you think it will stop by the 6th month mark on its own? or will i have to go back to have it removed?

hi i no were your coming from i had my 3rd child 23weeks ago and from i have had him i have been bleeding for the 23 weeks it can go away for a day then just start the next day it is not normal peroids as i am on the pill and have been on the same pill before i had my son i dont take a break at all on my pill at all i have been 2 my doctor and he has just give me tablets with acid in them and for discomfort which im not having when im bleeding i was meant to be going 4 a smear a few weeks ago and cant go as im always bleeding heavy.

I have been experiencing unusual vaginal bleeding for quite some time now. I've been to see a consultant who said everything looks healthy inside, but it is still happening, almost every time I have sex I bleed, sometimes it's just a little and has stopped by the next day, sometimes it's really bad and lasts as long as a period. I was offered cauterisation, but that means removing my coil (I suffered with extremely heavy bleeding and very irregular periods for many years, hence the reason for having a mirena coil put in)and I'm not keen on this idea at all as I cannot go back to virtual haemorraging every month or so. I am 35, have 2 children (both normal vaginal deliveries), very overweight and also have a polycystic ovary (left side only) and have recently been experiencing pain in my lower abdomen, had an internal scan and nothing found. What could be the cause of the bleeding and could the pain be indicating something more sinister?

Please help: I am 24 I recently found out I have polycystic ovaries but without the syndrome, I also went in to surgery a week ago for a diathermy on my Cervix as I had cervical erosion, which was causing irregular bleeding and bleeding after sex. The operation went well, I haven't had any pains, or bleeding, but I have had a lot of discharge which I understand is normal, the problem is it really smells and is a thick white consistency. My vagina doesn't itch or have any redness or swelling, what is going on? I am sick of having constant vaginal problems it's driving me Insane!

When me and my boyfriend had sex my vaginal opening started to bleed like I was on my period, but i just ended my period 10 days earlier. We just noticed that there is now a small hole just above my vaginal opening and its bleeding a little. I'm worried I do not know what it is. Any ideas would help.

I have had irregular periods, bleeding in between periods, not knowing if I am going to bleed from day to day I can't tell you how many pairs of underwear have been ruined! I have tried to see if there are any patterns to it and I think it happens when I'm feeling stressed or anxious but my doctor said it's usually the opposite??? I have had a colposcopy and soooooo many smear tests I honsetly don't know where to turn next. I do worry that it might be hiding something more serious especially since I seem to be getting other symptoms in that region now. If anyone has any other suggestions please help. By the way, good luck with your baby plans, you are not greedy!

I have this problem too! I was offered cauterisation, but am not keen as the consultant said everything looks healthy! I'd love to know what causes this as it's very inconvenient and putting me off sex (much to my husbands frustration!).

Hi, I couldnt find vaginal bleeding so I chose the category which was closest. Friends are telling me this could be a miscarriage, are they right?! Please help?

Quick query- there seems to be mixed views and I am worried. What is the potential of transmission of Hiv from anal and vaginal fingering to a women when the the man has peeled skin on his finger/ cuticles, and when there is potential of superficial bleeding from the finger/cuticle (not sure if this happened) when aggravated during anal and vaginal fingering. Is this a no risk to the man still?

hi i was on the jab and had no periods but i did have problems with weight, mood and skin. i was also put onto pill which gave me very irregular cycles. i would suggest you try another form of cotraception.

I had a similar situation as yours. Normally am 26 days cycle and 2-3days into bleeding. Suddenly everything changed, started having heavy bleeding and very painful. I had to use tampoon and pad at the same time and within an hour i have to change. I went to my GP and referred to a gynaecologist and detected i've got fibroids and have been offered to have the Mirina implant which has helped a lot with the bleeding and the pain. I was also on Tranexamic acid which helps with the bleeding. And because i was bleeding so much i was birder line anaemic and was put on iron tablets. Please as your GP to refer you to a gynae and get it sorted. All the best.

you can get vaginal polyps i ave ad them twice and they twist them off, not painful, just slight bleeding. unfortunately they grow back. which has now happened to me.

I'm 16 years old and have irregular, excessive vaginal bleeding. Before, i have bled for as long as 13 weeks continually, although lately, it is usual to bleed for 3-5 weeks. this was causing me to be exhausted, pale and feel weak alot of the time. My GP prescribed the mini-pill Cerazette (Desogestrel), and doesn't think i am anaemic. The pill has done little, other than induce all the negative effects (hormones, weight gain, bloatedness, etc) i have been on the pill for around 2 months, and have been bleeding for 3 weeks already. please help?

My urine is extremely dark and cloudy, I drink lots of fluids and eat healthy so this isn't food or drink related, when I sit down or even move my pelvis too fast it feels like someting is stabbing into my vaginal wall.. no one can tell me what's going on..blood tests have also been done and nothing came from it, what's weird is that my gyni told me that my next visit sould only by in 3 years time...please help me, I'm tired of this..

What kind of contraception do you use? I had something similar and my problems were caused by a hormonal imbalance, which was a result of using the wrong type of contraception. The doctors did crazy amounts of tests on me over a year, and in the end I just switched to condoms to give my system a rest and I returned to normal.

Could be a retroverted uterus causing the pain. Do you take vitamins? too much can cause discolored urine.
