Hello, This is extreamly embarrassing for me, but over the past two weeks i've been suffering from vaginal dryness, soreness and extream itching. I was thinking it might be to do with the antibiotics i was taking for something else, I was given many different courses of antibiotics when finally one worked (klaracid) & i've been off them for 2 weeks, which is when the extreame itching started. I ho so hoped it would settle down but it's just horrible to live with! I've tried anticeptic creams and they calm it down for an hour or so, but it isn't clearing up. It now hurt when i go to the toilet because i've been itching so much. It also worrys me because i'm 17, and i've only ever had one peroid (in feb) and well.. it makes me think somethings wrong. Please help?

It sounds like you may have a thrush infection which is very common after antibiotics. You can get medication from the chemist or your GP. The combination of a single tablet and cream for your vaginal area works best. Canesten Duo is one but supermarkets do their own brands which are the same but cheaper!!

hello, sometimes antibiotics can cause an ulteration in the vagina, be it dryness, change in consistency of discharge and even on some ocasions it can be the cause of a yeast infection, such as thrush which is particularly common and easily treated, by a cream, oral pill or pesory. My advice would be to pop into see your GP to give you a perscription of treatment, also it is in my past experiance that eating natural bio yogart for breakfast and fruits such as kiwis, pineapples and bannanas that contain enzymes and vitamins that can help with vaginal dryness and discharge consistensy. In regards to the anticeptic cream, there could be some chemicals that could be too harsh on the area but being an antiseptic it could also contain a small amout of anasthetic that would reduce any inflamation, remember this is the most sencitive part of your body! it would not remove the problem which would only cause re-ocurances, I hope this helps best of luck. :)

Hi i'm 17 and am sexually active and on the pill. I've recently not long ended my period and am starting to experience uncomfortable vaginal itching for a few days now, my partner and I lost our virginities to each other and we use a condom as well as the pill so in wondering if anyone can help me? What could be causing this itching and of anyone's experienced this before how did you stop it? Any advice would be brilliant.

This sounds like a little bit of thrush to me. If your discharge smells different to normal that would indicate thrush too. Women get it all the time, not just from sex - it can be from changing your clothes detergent, using harsh soaps on your genitals or even just stress. It's a bacteria called candida albicans which normally lives in your vagina but sometimes there's an imbalance for many reasons. You can get cream to soothe the itching from a pharmacy (Canesten) and a tablet to treat it but if you've never had it before, just double check with your GP.

I have been to see my GP twice about the itching (with small white spots) I have all around my vaginal area, including my bottom. She doesn't know what's causing it and has perscribed coitisone cream and anti histamines. I have the same itching on some of my fingers, neck and eye lids. The medication has helped slightly but still persists on my groin area. It's driving me mad!

I have vaginal thrush at the moment, it's now the second time i've had it but it's not as bad as the first time and the cream i use is great for the itching and swelling. But my question is, I recently had unprotected sex with a male i know very well and during sex i gave him oral sex after penetration. Does this mean that my vaginal thrush will spread into my mouth?

Yes probably.. I would get rid of thrush before you have sex, intercourse will only aggregate it.

I am 19 and have always had a regular discharge and got aroused and wet very easily and quickly. I have recently had some itching and accidentally scratched too much and it was hurting. I put hydrogen peroxide on the outside of my vagina to stop the itching. But after a few days of using the hydrogen peroxide once a day, I have extreme vaginal dryness. I still get turned on, and can orgasm, but nothing comes out and there is no wetness at all. It's a desert inside my vagina and outside. I'm terrified that it will be permanent. Help?

Hi,I've had problems with itching inner labia and in the vaginal opening for three months. Was first diagnosed as yeast infection and bacterial vaginos, and got oral medication. But the itching didn't stop. Went and got checked again and the gynecologist said it looks healthy and to just wait it out. But itching still remains. Since three days I'm also experiencing pain in the uterus that comes and goes and vary in intensity. Anyone knows what this might be and how to treat it? Thanks in advance :)

Could be a strep infection, which is itchy and causes redness, but no bumps or tash. This can be caused by bacteria from the rectum/anus coming in contact with the vulva. They can culture specifically for this. It can be treated with capsules of boric acid placed in the vagina. These have to be made by a pharmacy as I could not find them over the counter and it was not recommended that I buy empty capsules and fill myself.

I too have dealt with this while beginning the early stages of menopause. I had partial hysterectomy so I didn't have a cycle but started journaling the onset of this itching was right after the breasts were tender as if I was about to have a cycle. Every time the breasts got tender the itching came about two weeks .... Around time my cycle should be present. My dr gave me a script for diflucan pills and took one daily for 10 days each cycle. As my symptoms became few and far between with absent cycles the itching was at bay. I went several years suffering before realizing this. It's hormonal and bacteria imbalance I guess. Never got a name for it but finally got some relief with longer treatment with yeast meds.hope this helps.

I too suffered from vaginal dryness since giving up HRT. The itching was awful and it extended to the perianal area. Vagi-fem oestrogen pessaries have cured the problem. I use one about every other week and this keeps me moist and comfortable with no itching at all.

Hi i really need your help! i am sixteen and i am in a long term relationship. i have been with my boyfriend for 2 and a half years now and i have the implanon implant in my arm and we do not use condoms. i have had several STI checks which have always come back fully negative. During and after intercourse my vaginal area always burns and i have a great deal of discomfort also. The burning sensatin can last for around 3-4 hours and i also have an itching sensation when the burning has gone down. My boyfriend also has the same issue with his penis burning during and after sex. i have tried to see if condoms would help during intercourse but the burning and itching just gets worse! I first thought that i was allergic to latex but now after not using condoms for almost 2 years, the problem has still not gone. I have visited my own GP about the problem and he told me to drink plenty of fluids after intercourse but even this didnt help. I also have noticed that i am producing a lot of vaginal discharge lately and the amount is increasing. i have always had vaginal discharge on a daily basis but i thought it was just normal. What can i do to help my problem?? Please Help?! Many Thanks.

I'm 37 years old and have vaginal itching. I went to see my doctor about 6 months ago & was examined given cream to stop the itching and take away the redness. It calmed down a lot but has still not gone. I went back to my doc and she took a swab & examined me and everything came back ok. She advised me to try an antiseptic cream called drapolene, which i have, rather than keep using the clotrimazole cream previously prescribed, but I still have the itching which drives me mad. I have been buying the clotrimazole over the counter myself since, but nothing seems to be working and it seems to get worse at night. Is there any advice you can give me as I cant go on like this forever. Please Help!!

Hi, wasn't sure where to go with this so I reported here. For a number of years now I have suffered from vaginal itching. Sometimes it is so bad I can break the skin and make it bleed. I have had numerous swabs for everything from thrush to STD/STI's but they all come back clear. I have had 3 children in the last 15 years, all were normal delivery, and during the latter part of my 3rd pregnancy I was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis. This was cleared with anti-biotics Sometimes I have pale green/yellow discharge and sometimes its clear but the itching is literally 24/7. No over the counter products work, and the GP won't prescribe anything as my tests always come back clear. I don't use perfumed products or over wash my vaginal area. I am at the point now where it has become very upsetting for me as it has affected me going out in public in case it becomes too overbearing. I would desperately appreciate someone's help on this matter as I don't know where else to turn to.

I have been with my husband for twenty years and we have two children together. For the past year, a day after intercourse, I suffer from severe outer vaginal itching despite washing immediately afterwards. Could I be allergic to his semen? I really think this is the case as we've tried withdrawal method to test the theory and no itching. If I'm allergic, how can this be resolved as its affecting me my interest in having intercourse?

I can relate to your experience. Several years ago I had that same problem and kept going to many doctors, who give me vaginal creams that did not work. It drove me crazy especially at at nights. When my ex-husband left, the symptoms went away completely, so it seem like I was allergic to him some how. There is a product you can get online call Womb bend. It like a tea in which you drink 2 times a day. It great for vaginal itching. Also, for dryness use baby oil externally after every bath.

I have been under a consultant for three years now for vaginal itching. I have been using steroid creams many different ones for all this time to no avail. I'm swollen, sore, bleeding, pain and intense itching on my vulva but have recently noticed a line on the inside of my vulva of small pimples under the skin. I am post menopausal, not sexually active and need help. I've been told well maybe excema, psoriasis, not sure. Not LS or LP. No skin scrape to access true diagnosis.before this happened I noticed intense itching on the underside of my right foot only. Not between the toes. This went on for a while and suddenly disappeared. Then the itching appeared on my right palm. Small white spots under the skin. Over three years ago my vulva started to itch. Is this connected in someway? Please help this is ruining my life. I'm so depressed.

Hi, I am 40 yrs of age and I have vaginal itching for years. I've seen Gynecologist, GP's. I've been tested with negative findings and prescribed ointments/creams, oral tablets, suppositories but nothing worked. Last time I saw the GP, she prescribed Amitriptyline and still didn't work. The itching is almost unbearable esp at night. No foul odor, no abnormal discharge. Changed laundry detergent, shower gels, soap and I only use Epaderm. Still no joy. Please help :(

Hi I have been the same for years I am 41 years old. Discovered last year that its yeast. I have lactose intorlence so use lactose free milk. I eat yeast free bread. Too much fruit, sweet cake and biscuits won't help I have cut back on all these and I am itch free but when I do go overboard ill will get soar and itch. I used to bleed myself I would be that bad it would drive me mad. Hopefully this will help you

Don't wear pants or underwear to bed. When the itching gets bad try an ice pack, there will be an initial shock but it takes the itching sensation away.

This all began last summer 2010 July when i noticed i had gained some weight but along with this was when i experienced heat rushes all over my neck and body and the worst problem of all severe itching in the vaginal area. i have been to see my GP who prescribed itraconazole tabletS and cream for the itching in certain areas of the body such as under the breasts, in the groin areas under my arm pit etc. in the vaginal area. the darktarin cream initially EXTERNALLY helped but that finished before christmas 2010. But the itchinig inside my vagina and that region continues. It itches so much i have to scratch. when i scratch the inside lips of the vagina and surrouding area become sore , it stings, it bleeds, and during my menstraual bleed the symptoms become worse, it becomes so painful sometimes it takes my breath away and i take deep breaths. . WHEN I WASH THE VAGINAL AREA I ONLY GET RELIEF WHEN I AM USING WARM TO H0T WATER. I DO NOT KNOW WHY I AM SUFFERRING LIKE THIS. bUT IF THE SYMPTOMS DO NOT CLEAR UP AS I AM MONITORING WHAT IS GOING ON I WILL HAVE TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT AT THE GUM CLINIC TO FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. I USE CANESTEN 2% CREAM WHICH SOOTHES AND GIVES A A SLIGHT RELIEF BUT THE SORENESS AND PAIN CONTINUES. WHEN I URINATE SOMETIMES THE URINE STINGS SO MUCH MY VAGINAL AREA. iF ANYONE HAS A SOLUTION TO THIIS COULD THEY PLEASE ADVISE ME THANK YOU.

Hi Rosemary! Canesten made my vulvodynia worse. I was prescribed Lidocaine at the clinic, helped a little but not much, in fact I don't use it now but it may help you. This is a horrid condition made worse by the fact that there is no cure. I use Simple soap, nothing perfumed and wash my undies in Fairy non-bio on a hot wash. Tight clothing aggravates it. I believe that the only way forward for us sufferers is self-help. If anyone knows of a UK based forum I would like to know. Thanks!

Hey, about the itching it was for me like that the first time too, but it gets less if you do it more often. And about the vaginal opening I would say that's because you might be a virgin. Just check if you can get your pinky in and you'll be alright.

I've been itching for 4 months everywhere from my scalp to my feet 24/7 I only have some small rd bumps but I have been looked at by 2 doctors and an allergy doctor they don't think it's scabies but I feel like something is crawling on me and I've been treated for scabies and I'm still. Itching I can't sleep from always itching please help I'm going to see a dermatologist next week!! I have also taken all kinds of medication to help with itching and NOTHING WORKS!!!
