Hi, I have been trying to get information about genital warts and HPV and it's all a bit unclear. I did watch your video but it seems to conflict with what other are medical websites say so is still unclear. I hoping to find out a few things... 1) I had genital warts when I was 18 and haven't had them since. I'm now 35. Is it still possible to pass the HPV on to my partners? And was it possible all those years? I was badly informed about it in the past. 2) Some people/doctors say you can not clear the HPV from your system and yet I've just watched your video saying that it is in fact possible and the likelihood of being infectious after sometime is slim. But you also say that even after getting rid of the warts it's possible to pass the HPV on. Do you mean within a certain time of having had the warts? Is there no cure for HPV but it can still leave your system by itelf? 3) Is it possible to find out if I still have the HPV in my system? According to regular STI tests I've been clean of stis since I was 18 when I had the genital warts. Does this mean I don't have the HPV or it's just laying dormant? 4) Can you pass on the virus by touching the once infected area and then touching another person's genitals or other parts of the body or does there have to be direct contact between the once infected area and another person's genitals or other body parts? 5) What is the likelihood that a girl can pass the HPV to another girl? Would they have to have genital to genital contact? Or can it be passed using sex toys, fingers or orally? 6) My biggest concern is that I was led to believe that it wasn't a big deal and I wouldn't be infectious after a few years so I didn't tell my partners. I know this is especially significant for women considering cervical cancer is a risk if they contract the virus and I've had a few female partners. I'm worried I should have been telling my partners all along, especially the girls since they'd need to get regular tests. Can a girl whose had genital warts pass the HPV to another girl where it'll cause cervical cancer? My first female partner was about 3 years after I got rid of the genital warts. 7) I get smear tests every few years. Should I be getting one every year because I had the HPV at one point? 8) Should I tell future partners, male or female, that I had genital warts at one point and may still have the HPV? 9) Is this information, found on the website below, incorrect? There Isn't a Cure … Scientists have not found a cure for HPV—once someone contracts the virus, it is with them for life. The goal of treatment is to remove warts and to reduce other overt symptoms of the infection. The genital warts themselves can be removed by surgically freezing them, burning them with acid or lasers, or applying prescription creams, but removing the warts doesn't eradicate the virus. Read more: Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Genital Warts and HPV — Infoplease.com http://www.infoplease.com/cig/dangerous-diseases-epidemics/genital-warts-hpv.html#ixzz2DQJlp3dI I've just realised that only users of the site answer questions so I guess things will still be unclear but I suppose I may as well post anyway Thank you for any help given! Kind regards, Amanda

I think me and my boyfriend had what's referred to as 'dry sex'. He lay on top of me and then I lay on top of him, close to our genitals. Then we sat with our legs between each others so aain our genitals were close. I was ovulating at the time. However he always kept his boxers on with sim shorts over the top and I always had a pair of bikini bottoms on. Could I be pregnant?

No. There is no possible way you could be pregnant if he didn't produce any sperm :) You're in the clear! :)

I gave my first oral sex yesterday ('blow job'), it was unprotected, & I'm now aware he should have worn a condom to be on the safe side. He didn't ejaculate, & neither of us have had any sexual partners in the past- it was the first time for oral for both of us. Neither of us have any infections, cuts, or warts both around the mouth, or the genitals. I'm wondering if there's still a chance I've caught an STI, & if so, which they are most likely to be? Thank you! (I'm also under the age of 18) :)

The spots are just irritation from the blade. Usually having damp skin, such as after a shower can help stop this. Also some balms Such as Nivea after shaving balm is useful cos this is what i use. Just don't put too much on or it will not sink in and it just leaves a mess....

I recently found a bump by my anus. My current partner and I don't use condoms but he does not have warts - can warts be passed on through virus if they are not visible on him? we have been faithful to each other, but the 'warts' have only appeared now?! if not then the only other option would be from an ex who i haven't had intercourse with for over a year. is a year too long for warts to develop? who could have given them to me?

My wee boy has had molluscum for almost 2 years. It is entirely confined to his genitals and constantly flared up to huge inflamed abcess like infections. He is only 4 so squeezing is out of the question. I dont want to create a stigma around his genitals for starting school either. Ive tried, Aloe vera, tea tree, fucidin ointment, silver spray and betamethasone cream. Help?

Hello yes we ordered zymaderm from off the internet, my 3 sons all had it and my youngest being 3 couldn't squeeze. Anyway it was only about £20 and it was brilliant you had to put it on everyday but keep up with it as you could see them shrink to nothing. Every thing will be back to normally and your boy will be happy!

I was wondering If a plantar wart can be spread from the bottom of the foot to the genitals or to in and around the mouth? If so, do you then get the same type of wart on the genitals or in and around the mouth? Treatable in the same way? Thanks

Hello, I was just informed from a guy I had messed around with that he has gential warts....and he told me after we messed around a couple times and now he has moved to a different state. I am frustrated that he did not tell me about this BEFORE he messed around. We did not have sex but I did give him a hand job. I know that I did not touch my genitals after doing this but I am concerned that I could still somehow be at risk. When he told me he said that he currently has four. He also fingered me too so that's a huge concern of mine...not too worried about the hand job compared to that one. Please help me.

I have been with my husband since we were 16. We were both vivirgins and have never had any other sexual partners. We were complet virgins. I have been to my sexual health clinic because I have three tiny lumps on my vaginas which they confirmed. Were warts. My husband came with me to the clinic as we are seeking an explanation. We are both confused as to how on earth is got these warts. Please help. They suggested that the warts on my husbands hands could be passed to me. And He has had cold sores. however your advice says hand warts are not passed to the genitals. We are upset and need an answer. We love each other and have a 3yr old child We are happy together. Does this mean my husband has had an affair?

Visible warts on the genitals are very contagious. If you've had unprotected sex with him whilst his warts are active (present) you will have certainly acquired the HPV strain(s) which cause Genital Warts. Not everyone who gets the GW strain will actually get visible warts, instead they'll carry the virus. Dont stress as HPV, in the majority of people (90%) will clear the virus within 1-2 years according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). There is no research to prove the virus stays with you for life, nor is there proof is "clears" completely. Most experts will agree that HPV is no longer a chronic illness. My advice to you is get your regular PAP smear done every 6 months to ensure you have no abnormal results. On a final note, HPV is so common, it really is a "fact of life". Most people have it and will never know as there is no test for men (apart from when warts are present) & in most cases it will become dormant and/or clear from the body completely causing no problems in future life.

I have small white spots on the side of my penis and it goes all the way down to my genitals. It's also quite sore. Is this genital warts?

To answer 'DEBORAH' yes, the cold sore virus can spread to your genitals. if your partener has cold sores and you have oral sex this can be spread to your genitals and can cause genitals herpes. which is a virus which stays with you for life! be careful

I've had this for years now, it is driving me crazy. I first noticed it when I was in the navy and got given some blue liquid stuff which is used to treat genital warts and all it did was really badly burn my genitals. I'm trying to make it go away by letting them go away by itself and it just won't disappear!

I agree! And I think it's due to sexism in our society that men's genitals are seen as normally "big" and womens' small. Bigness is associated with dominance, strength, health. Why shouldn't female genitals be big, why only males? It doesn't aid reproduction in any way.

hi i have warts all over my fingers, all togther i have 6 warts, one of my warts is about 3 inches and i have had this one for about 2 years. I have been to the docters 8 times to have them froze and they still have not gone.I have even been to a private doctor to help me get rid of my warts and still i have them, if anyone has got any information on how to get rid of them then please say

You shouldn't feel embarrassed at all. Men's genitals are big, why not women's? Women do not need to have smaller genitals than men to aid in reproduction. As long as the sperm reaches the eggs, it's fine.

Everyone's genitals are extremely unique, but that general look and texture is quite common. I don't think that a bumpy texture has any specific cause (nor is it anything to be concerned about); the appearance of your genitals are mostly influenced by your genes.

Hi, I'm 24 and I recently noticed a bump on my anus while showering. Upon further inspection, I found two more but they were very tiny. I was horrified thinking they were warts. But I'm female and I don't engage in anal intercourse so why would I have them on my anus and not my genitals? Its been 7 months now and I haven't had any new ones appear but the ones I had have gotten bigger. The largest one is about the size of a grain of rice. They don't really look like warts. They kind of hang from the skin and they're slightly bulbous at the end. I did some research and I think they may just be skin tags. Apparently anal skin tags are a common condition in people with frequent hemorrhoids - which I have suffered with for years. Still, its really embarrassing and it has taken a toll on my self esteem. I know I should go to the doctor but I hate the thought of being looked at and I'm worried about the outcome. Any thoughts?

I would suggest going to a GUM clinic if you are concerned about warts. Freezing them followed by a course of cream treatments is probably most effective - freezing is painless, just a little uncomfortable. Just because you have warts doesnt mean your partner will get them and visa versa, they may have the virus but will not get visible warts. If you dont have visible warts you cant get checked for them or treatment for them. Sometimes warts go away on there own, sometimes they return after treatmen (usually within 18 months of having them) its different for everyone.... It is the most common STI so you are not alone, my suggestion would be to keep an eye on them so they dont spread and deal with the issue, the good news is gential warts are not linked to cancer or more concerning conditions.
